The following was written in 1906 and therfore
\nreflects the laws and practices of that era.<\/p>\n

The book is presented because of the historical
\ninterest that terriermen may have about bygone days.
\nPreface to The Fox<\/p>\n

The design of the Fur, Feather, and Fin Series is
\nto present monographs, as complete as they can
\npossibly be made, on the various English birds,
\nbeasts and fishes which are generally included
\nunder the head of Game.<\/p>\n

Books on Natural History cover such a vast
\nnumber of subjects that their writers necessarily
\nfind it impossible to deal with each in a really
\ncomprehensive manner ; and it is not within
\nthe scope of such works exhaustively to discuss
\nthe animals described in the light of objects of
\nsport.<\/p>\n

Books on sport, again, seldom treat at
\nlength of the Natural History of the creatures
\nwhich are shot or otherwise taken ; and, so far
\nas the Editor is aware, in no book hitherto
\npublished on Natural History or Sport has
\ninformation been given as to the best methods
\nof turning the contents of the bag to account.<\/p>\n

Each volume of the present Series is, therefore,
\ndevoted to a bird, beast, or fish. The
\ncreature’s origin is traced, its birth and breeding
\ndescribed, and all the sportsman’s methods of
\ndealing with it are set forth.<\/p>\n
